Colorado Congressional Candidate Jessica Killin Highlights Cost of Living, Military Issues, and Congressional Reform in Colorado Springs Race
Jessica Killin’s Background of Military Service and Public Leadership
Jessica Killin, a candidate for Congress in Colorado’s competitive congressional district, recently shared her personal story, military experience, and vision for the future of Southern Colorado. A fourth-generation Coloradan, Killin was raised in Colorado Springs by parents who worked in public education. Growing up in a community deeply connected to military service, she developed a strong commitment to public service from an early age.
After receiving an Army ROTC scholarship, Killin served as a military police officer and paratrooper, participating in overseas peacekeeping and NATO-related operations. Following her military service, she attended Georgetown Law School and later spent more than a decade working to support the financial security of veterans and service members. Her career also included key leadership positions in Congress and the White House, providing her with extensive experience in federal policymaking and government operations.
Rising Cost of Living Remains Top Concern for Colorado Families
According to Killin, the biggest issue facing many residents in Colorado Springs and El Paso County is the rising cost of living. While the region has experienced significant population growth over the last decade, wages have not kept pace with increasing expenses.
She noted that families are struggling with higher housing costs, childcare shortages, healthcare expenses, grocery bills, and fuel prices. Even individuals who have received promotions or salary increases often feel financially squeezed because inflation and living expenses continue to rise faster than incomes.
Killin believes these economic challenges have caused many Americans to lose confidence in government institutions and public officials. She argues that elected leaders must focus on practical solutions that improve affordability and create economic opportunities for working families.
Military Community Closely Watching Foreign Policy Decisions
With five military installations and more than 100,000 veterans located within the district, foreign policy and national security remain important concerns for local residents. Killin emphasized that many service members and veterans view international conflicts through a strategic and practical lens because they understand the real-world consequences of military action.
She expressed concerns about recent foreign policy decisions, arguing that military engagement should be carefully planned and coordinated with allies. Killin also highlighted the importance of maintaining strong international partnerships, particularly through organizations such as NATO, and warned that weakening alliances could create opportunities for geopolitical rivals to expand their influence.
Calls for Stronger Congressional Oversight and Accountability
A major theme of Killin’s campaign is restoring the role of Congress. She argued that lawmakers have gradually surrendered too much authority to the executive branch over multiple administrations. In her view, Congress has become increasingly ineffective both in passing legislation and providing oversight of presidential actions.
Killin believes elected representatives must reclaim their constitutional responsibilities, particularly regarding spending decisions, military actions, and government accountability. She stated that members of Congress should prioritize serving constituents rather than demonstrating loyalty to political figures.
A “Team Normal” Approach to Winning a Competitive District
Killin describes herself as “Team Normal,” emphasizing practical problem-solving over ideological battles. She believes many voters are tired of political polarization and want leaders willing to engage with people who hold different viewpoints.
With changing demographics and rapid growth in the district, Killin argues that success will depend on listening to voters, addressing everyday concerns, and focusing on results. Her campaign centers on affordability, national security, economic growth, and restoring trust in government while appealing to Democrats, independents, and moderate Republicans seeking effective leadership.
